I’m proud to say the staffing industry has rallied to support the 10 million displaced Ukrainians who have reportedly now fled their homes since Russia invaded the sovereign nation more than a month ago.
A shout out goes to Adecco for setting up an entire platform for displaced Ukrainians to find jobs, the first multinational company to do so. They have massive size and scale in 60 countries, and there’s no doubt that their online training, job search and counseling will be hugely important in helping stabilize one of the world’s most incredible talent pools.
Kudos are also in order for ManpowerGroup, which donated $500,000 to aid humanitarian relief efforts through local and global organizations that include UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency. These funds will support efforts to provide cash assistance and support child welfare to those in need.
If we’re going to talk about conscious capitalism, then I think that employers should take a stand and help innocent people throughout the world wherever they become displaced because of war. But it doesn’t stop at Ukraine. There are many as 2.6 million registered Afghan refugees in the world, most of whom fled to Iran and Pakistan, according to UNHCR, while another 3.5 million people have been displaced within their borders since the Taliban took over last summer.
When companies become proactively involved in partnering with organizations that are helping resettle these refugees, it not only stabilize their lives, but also can help fill chronic labor shortages.
