Connecting the Golden Thread of Humanity with Jeff Scult

We live in a society where we’re taught that our clothes are disposable. 80 billion new pieces of clothes are made every year and 87% will wind up in incinerator landfill within 18 months. How do we then take our part in making a pivot to a better world?

Jeff Scult created a sustainable clothing brand, One Golden Thread, which was not initially set out as a clothing brand. Rather it was a physical manifestation of his full self-expression over his life’s journey. It was his calling to share the philosophy that despite all the curve balls thrown at us, we are each golden inside – and this simple truth is what connects us together as a golden thread.

The Impetus Behind One Gold Thread

  • Out of that 87%, only 3% are made of sustainable fibers, which means there’s massive soil toxification that’s also leaching to your waterways. 30% of the microplastics in the ocean come from the clothes we not only toss but also wash as microplastics are leached into our washing machines that go into the waterways.
  • One Golden Thread is a business within the construct of the B Corp philosophy, which is that business can be a collective force for social good. It’s about running the business profitably, and also creating solutions for a better world and for our children’s children.

A Shift from Being Activists to Proactivitists

  • Instead of being problemists or activists, we can be proactivists and solutionists. Focusing on making a better product allows us to be compromise-free and everything else is like a natural waterfall, where all the other things just cascade.
  • See things from the lens of an abundance mindset over a scarcity mindset. And seeing things from the lens of being a solutionist versus a problemist and the lens of being a proactivist instead of an activist, makes a better product.

How to Claim Your Golden Voice

  • You have to give yourself permission to shift and pivot into purpose. You have to unlock it, and give yourself the fullness of it. It’s a practice, but it’s not a time-based practice decision-making metric.
  • We can shift and pivot and time is our most precious resource. Our next breath could be that breath where we give ourselves that permission.
  • We are on this planet for three reasons to learn, to love, and to share. And if you are not sharing your gifts you are being selfish. When you share your gifts, you’re not being narcissistic, egoic, or selfish, but you’re inspiring another to step into the spotlight and share theirs in a circle.

We all have a golden voice to share. Inside all of us is the thread that unites us. We are all born golden. And so, it’s not about change, but about how you shift and pivot your life to become the full expression of your being. If you want to learn more about Jeff’s journey with One Golden Thread, check out https://alexatwood.co/podcast/episode038
