Today is International Day of Friendship, July 30 under the hashtag #DayOfFriendship, we’ll all have a chance to celebrate the special people in our lives who help make us happy. They say you don’t you don’t get to choose your family, but you do get to choose your friends. The people we let into our lives share our triumphs and disappointments. Whether we’ve known them since childhood or for a shorter, they all play an extremely important role that shape and influence us.
We share our most intimate or authentic moments and secrets with friends – sometimes even more than our own family. The friends I had growing up, for instance, knew a lot more about me than my own parents. It was it was really important for me to have friends since I grew up as an only child in a single-parent household, and so they were like brothers and sisters to me. My best friend in kindergarten named Dustin who lived downstairs tragically fell into an icy lake and died.
I remember hearing his mom break the news to my mom. It had such a massive impact on me, and I still remember how I felt that day. Where we would be without close friends to share our experiences? I am so grateful to have had friends who’d be willing to take my call and hear me out for hours, offering their opinions about my predicaments. Be sure to reach out to friends on International Friendship Day and share your gratitude for all the goodness that they bring to you!
